FSPA Chairman Liam Burns welcomes MP's, Lord's, VIP's and FSPA member guests

‘Fantastic showcase’, ‘Refreshing’, ‘Timely event’ and ‘Interesting and Informative evening’ were just some of the phrases used by guests attending the recent prestigious FSPA Evening Reception Event at the House of Commons on Monday 25th June.

Entitled ‘Showcasing the UK Sport and Play Industries’ the special event brought together MP’s, Lords, VIP’s from leading national governing bodies and government departments, and FSPA and BGIA members, to celebrate and raise awareness of the vibrant sport and play sectors.

The event, set in the historic Terrace Pavilion venue, provided guests with the perfect opportunity to network and discuss ways for working together and utilising the commercial sector, whilst taking in the impressive views on the Thames-side Terrace in the evening summer sunshine.

Guests were welcomed by host Brandon Lewis MP who expressed his “delight at being able to host such an exciting event, in such a historic sporting year for the UK”. Brandon went on to praise the Federation “..for it’s willingness and desire to offer its services and expertise in partnering and engaging with government on topics of mutual interest”.

FSPA Chairman Liam Burns then thanked guests for attending and explained the reason for the event was “..to highlight the huge resource the FSPA membership is, and how as a trade body we are keen to be consulted on play and sport campaigns, initiatives and policy at its developmental stage”.

A short FSPA video was then played to highlight this:

The atmosphere at the event was one of excitement, with all guests wearing FSPA Pedometer’s to encourage moving and networking more and recording total steps for the evening, creating a real buzz around celebrating the sector and the innovative UK companies the FSPA has within its membership.

Special guests ex-GB athlete's Nathan Robertson (England Badminton mixed doubles) and Karen Pickering (Britain's most successful swimmer) were also in attendance, speaking and posing for pictures with MP’s and Lords, who were clearly eagerly embracing the sport fever in anticipation of the world's greatest sporting event arriving in London in just over a month’s time.

The reception raised considerable interest on social media with many guests tweeting about the video and event before, during and after the reception, and feedback since has been fantastic with many new contacts and meetings arranged to further develop mutually beneficial relationships.
