England Golf
Three years ago, England Golf published the Whole Sport Plan for Golf which aimed to provide a clear, coherent strategy for growing the game in England. The underlying principles behind the plan are:
- It is a plan for the whole game
- It is Golfer centred
- it is an investment proposal for Growing the Game
The strategy complemented the aspirations of Government and Sport England in its ambition to increase and sustain participation in the sport. The progress that has been made since 2005 is detailed in the England Golf Impact Report which demonstrates that England could become the leading golf nation in the world by 2020. The report shows that:
- 23 County Golf Partnerships have been formed
- 383 Clubs are registered to work towards GolfMark
- There has been £950,000 of new investment in grass roots golf
- 211 Community Links facilities have been created
- Golf is working with 308 School Sports Partnerships
- 32,000 volunteers are working at all levels of the sport
- In the 3 years since the Whole Sport Plan was introduced around £8.5m of external funding has been invested in golf development at all levels
